While the Cat's Away...

I was both gratified and a little saddened that so many people could identify with my last post. It's nice to know I'm not alone in those kinds of thoughts, but it totally sucks that so many awesome people - particularly women - struggle with such negative thinking. Here's to us and overcoming the negativity!

This week, Matt bought a new race board for paddling and put his other race board up for sale. And wasn't it just perfect kismet that the person who wanted to buy his board lives in Orlando, and wanted to meet the same weekend as alumni weekend?

I chose not to go on this trip; I absolutely cannot travel and stay up until 3am partying with only three weeks until race day! So Matt went on his own, and I was left to answer the age-old question of how to entertain myself while home alone.

Friday after work I baked brownies and gave myself a manicure.
I used Krusteaz's new GF mix and it was a total success. YUM!
This picture may be my latest argument against people going gluten free to "lose weight."
I'm really loving this black-purple shade.
As soon as I'd finished I remembered why I never paint my nails. Archie hates nail polish and hasn't let me give him scratches all weekend. He's still hanging out with me, but he's avoiding my hands at all costs.
PJs, classic rom-com, and a sleeping birdie. My Saturday night in one photo.
What can I say, I'm a complex woman with eclectic tastes in TV.
Saturday I woke up for a run with Kristin, and immediately afterward realized that my plan to get new shoes after the race wasn't going to pan out. How am I already at 360 miles?!
Not my best run. This was good proof to me that tapering happens for a reason.
Bubblegum pink and brand new! It's going to take me awhile to get used to the color!

I spent the day resting and researching/planning for the marathon.

My favorite running shorts are the 3.5" Epic Run, and I wore them for my 20-miler without any problems, but I ordered a pair of the 5.5" to test out and compare before race-day.

I've been spending some time figuring out my running plan for race day. I don't want to hit the wall earlier than necessary (because I'm sure it will happen sometime over the course of 26.2 miles!), so starting at a conservative pace seems smart. But sometimes it's hard to crank up the pace if I've started too conservatively. So I need to play around with what my "yellow zone" pace really is.
Food for thought!
Truthfully, although I get lonely and a little scared alone at night, it's nice to have a couple days to myself to relax and indulge in junk TV and other girlie pleasures.

How do you pass the time when you're home alone?
What junk TV do you enjoy?
How was your weekend?

  1. I get nervous at home too! I normally play cello, read a book, or blog. Or I will binge watch Castle or Bones with my sister - definitely my guilty pleasure!

    1. When I'm home alone and read a book, I end up reading the entire thing! There's no one around to stop me haha!

  2. Mmmm it looks like the brownies came out perfectly!

After my amazing experience with the running skirt a few days ago I went out and bought 5.5 shorts from Under Armour. I've only worn them once but I really like them!

    1. The brownies are chewy and so good! The tops are perfect, too. I highly recommend them!

  3. Those brownies!!!!

I have the same nail colour and love it! It makes me feel bad ass when I wear it. ;)

I am really wishing the Kayanos didn't hurt my IT bands so much :( I'd love to wear those pink beauties! My Nimbus 16s were also pink that I wore in my marathon. It was such a dilemma to get a matching outfit, lol.

    1. I'm not usually one for the super dark colors but I really like this one! I feel like it's flattering and yes, totally badass!

I feel the same about the other Asics models. They're SO cute but I have to stick with Kayanos because everything else hurts!

    1. I didn't hit it during the 20, so here's hoping I don't hit it during the full!

  6. Those brownies look amazing! You might not hit the wall, but a comfortable steady pace for the first half is a good idea anyway.

  7. This is funny because Paul was gone last weekend and I had a lot of time to myself! I went on some runs WITHOUT my phone- very freeing because I normally have to take my phone everywhere due to Paul's health. I also went to visit family, which was nice to be able to do alone. I mean, I love when Paul comes too, but it was nice to just stay for as long or as short as I wanted to and just do my own thing. I read A LOT while he was gone. That was a lot of fun!

    1. I was super bored with the book I had on hand so I didn't read much while he was gone. I should have graded but had no motivation!

  8. Brownies and nail polish- both look like they turned out fabulous!! Love that color.

I really like the yellow/orange/red chart. I was nervous thinking about my half this weekend and not wanting to start too fast and burn myself out-the adrenaline gets the best of me-so I'm definitely going to keep that chart in mind! Let me know how the shorts work out! I'm more of a fitted-shorts girl for running and I'm always looking for new pairs...

My guilty pleasure consists of BRAVO...I could do Real Housewives of Beverly Hills or Orange County for an embarrassing amount of time.

    1. I really love the Nike Epic shorts. I love my 3.5" ones, and it seems the 5.5" will work really well too. Nice and fitted but SO comfy and they don't pinch at my waist at all.

I can binge-watch Real Housewives shows too! They're so addicting!

  9. I pass time the same way you do...I am obsessed with owls and I have these awesome owl pants that are so comfy! I live in them on weekends.

I like that chart! I'll have to save it for my first half coming up.

Favorite shows: Once Upon a Time, Sleepy Hollow and Revenge. I haven't changed that much since middle school- I just moved from HP to grown up magic shows :-)

    1. The only magic show I've really loved was Buffy; I haven't been able to get into any of the more recent ones, despite my love of the fantasy genre!
