Decisions, Decisions

It's October! In case you missed the memo, that means 2015 is officially winding down and it's time to look ahead to 2016.

Specifically, I'm looking ahead to February! Next year I turn the big 3-0, and I'm actually really excited. I know stereotypically women are supposed to feel like thirty is the beginning of the end, but I'm joyfully anticipating my new age group. I don't see the end of my 20s as a deadline of some sort, so saying goodbye to 29 isn't giving me anxiety or bringing up any regrets.
WRONG.
Here's my dilemma. The Fort Lauderdale A1A Marathon is during my birthday weekend again this year. It's a long weekend thanks to President's Day, and the race itself is on Valentine's Day. Originally, I wanted to spend my birthday at home. Our kitchen should be done by then (hopefully) and I thought having a party or big dinner with friends would be a fun way to celebrate.
A1A's 2016 medal...I want, I want!
Then I saw the medals. And I reread my recap from last year's race. And now I'm totally torn.
At the finish line last year! This really was the perfect birthday.
Obviously this is the best kind of problem to have, because no matter what I choose to do, I'm going to have a fabulous weekend celebrating thirty. But that doesn't mean the decision's easy make!

At least I have some time to think it over, right?!

What are you looking forward to in 2016? Or is it still too early for you to think about?
How do you like to celebrate milestone birthdays?

  1. You're right, whatever you choose your bday will be GREAT! Is it the half or the whole? I say if it's the half, run the race AND have the party! :) If it's the full, you may not feel like hosting right after hehe.

    1. It's the half; I think I won't be doing a full in 2016. I need a year off to focus on shorter distances and getting faster!

I definitely think I'll be doing the race...maybe a party the weekend after!

  2. I love the flip flop medal, how cute! 2016 is definitely too far away for me to think about...I was overwhelmed the other day when my husband asked me what we were going to do for Thanksgiving, and that's really not that far away! :)

    1. Ha, I definitely agree about Thanksgiving! Sometimes I find looking WAY ahead helps me stress less about things that are just around the corner.

  3. I've heard great things about the A1A race! I planned (without thinking too much) a marathon both on valentine's day weekend and on my birthday weekend, which is also memorial day weekend. Oops. I'm super excited about both races but I feel like I owe my sweetie big time for making huge personal plans for two big weekends in the Spring. So I totally understand being conflicted about this. I did the birthday one without thinking twice about it, because I'm not a big birthday person, but as a very wise friend reminded me - birthdays aren't always about you.

Good luck making your decision! Both options sound like a lot of fun.

    1. I love running races on holidays or big days, so I get planning one for Memorial Day weekend too...It's nice that you're taking his needs into consideration. Sometimes I just sign up for races without even running them by Matt first haha!

  4. Definitely thinking about 2016 already.

I like Megan's comment above, if it's the half you're thinking of, then do the race and then have a party (but have it catered).

    1. Oh, I love the idea of having it catered...that would make life easier!

  5. I would LOVE to run a race on my birthday weekend! My birthday will fall on a Saturday in 2016, so I think it would be really cool to run a half marathon...but it's in March, and there are NO big races around here until April. Plus, we are already going to be traveling and spending money in 2016. But the good news is my birthday will be on a Sunday in 2017, which will be my 30th, so maybe that will be a better year to do it!

I say go for it. Why not celebrate your birthday with something that's a huge part of your life?

    1. I love that you're already thinking a bit ahead to 2017!! That gives you time to pick the PERFECT destination race if you want haha.

  6. I don't know if this is going to make your decision harder or easier, but the flip flops are actually an old medal design. This is the one for 2016: https://www.facebook.com/FortLauderdaleA1AMarathon/photos/a.409347709126013.93206.405377179523066/958476090879836/?type=3&theater

^^^ I cannot imagine missing out on that gorgeous medal! I hope you'll come down and do it again!
