...That I am still in desperate need of "additional padding" on my tuchus. Ouch. Also, I hate to say
never, but I truly don't see a tri in my future.
|
I just finished Is Everybody Hanging out Without Me...And Other Concerns and was a little disappointed. Age of Miracles is already amazing and I'm barely five chapters in. |
We biked to the park Monday after the race and read for a little while. The weather was just beautiful. Sometimes I'm just enamored with Florida winters!
|
Matt sneakily took a photo of me reading... |
|
...And I sneakily took a photo of him. Match made in sneaky heaven, yes? |
Other ways we celebrated the long weekend and a new half marathon PR?
Giving Archie some love...
|
He loves scratches! |
Waffles for brunch...
|
Be jealous. |
Ice and the Olympics...
|
My cold knees commiserated with the skiers' cold everythings. |
Receiving the most hilarious and awesome birthday gift ever...
|
My sister knows me so well! |
And finally...
|
Technically I signed up on my birthday, before the half, but here's my official announcement. |
That's right folks. I'm giving it another go. I've heard such good things about this race, and multiple people from my Sub-30 group are running it. I'm a stronger and more confident runner than ever right now; I'm ready to keep on track and tackle a full.
Last year I was sidelined by injury; this year I will prevail!
Would you ever try a tri?
What are you reading right now?
Please tell me you've seen and love Labyrinth as much as I do! Not joking, my siblings and I have probably seen it over 100 times because it was the only thing we rented from Blockbuster (remember them?) every weekend when my parents had date night. Its soundtrack was the first CD I ever owned.
ABK
I don't think a tri will ever happen for me - I don't like to swim and biking is just OK to me.
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading The Husband's Secret - it was good. Now I'm reading Sandra Brown's Deadline.
Thanks for recommendations...I'll need to look into both those books!
DeleteI would love to do a tri someday :) Hopefully an Ironman but the swim freaks me out! That is so awesome that you are going to run a marathon! I can't wait to hear about your training :)
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine running a full after doing any kind of other exercise. Lofty, awesome dream, girl!
DeleteWe OWN the Labyrinth. And have already forced my son to watch it. He's 4.
ReplyDeleteI own it too!! Matt doesn't really love it, but I think it's because he wasn't raised on it like I was!
DeleteWoohoo MARATHON! Have you run one before? Archie is so cute. Do you let him fly around the house? I too was not impressed with Mindy's book and I really wanted to like it. I'm sure you've read it, but Tina Fey's Bossypants was really good!
ReplyDeleteThis will be my first! Fingers crossed for me!
DeleteWe let Archie fly around the house. He has a big cage we leave open when we're home, and he can go in there as he likes to nap, eat, drink, bathe, etc. I've been taking more pics of him just for you! haha
I loved Bossypants! So good!
I am really excited for you that you signed up for another! I can't wait to read about your training.
ReplyDeleteThat afternoon in the park reading just looked so terrible. I'm sorry you had to spend time in the warm sun with a lovely husband reading good books. ;-)
I will never do a tri because I am terrible at swimming. I love to swim, but when I do it for exercise, I just end up doing the back stroke because I can never get my breathing right and I end up looking like a dying fish.
Yeah, it was truly a pain to lay out in the sun and read a book. And I know what you mean about looking like a dying fish...I'm a terrible swimmer!
DeleteMarathon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
ReplyDeleteI am so excited!
I also need extra cushioning on my bike...ouch. And I need that waffle recipe...YUM!
Haha, I may be talking your ear off for advice!! You clearly know what you're doing when it comes to training!
DeleteThe waffle is just GF Bisquick, and I add vanilla, cinnamon, and extra milk to make them a little thinner than usual!
Yay, a marathon! I have been wondering when you would sign up to give it another go, I had a feeling it would be soon since you've been having such great races.
ReplyDeleteI was slightly disappointed with "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me..." too. I liked the last couple of chapters, but most of it was pretty bleh. Since I finished it I haven't read any new books -- I need one. I'm going to download the Age of Miracles :)
You and I always seem to be training for long distances at the same time. It's perfect!
DeleteI hope you like AoM. It's really beautiful and haunting.
I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOUR FULL!!!!!!!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI will have to make an update on my blog since I posted your guest post today :)
Tri's do not interest me but that may be because I'm not a big swimmer and/or biker!
Currently I am reading "The Book Thief" and I'm not really in love with it :(
It took me a LONG time to get into "The Book Thief", and I had to see the movie first to enjoy the book. But I did really like it once I read it.
DeleteI get asked about tris a lot because I love to swim, and I used to bike a lot, but I can safely say that I don't want to train on the bike the way I would feel I need to. So no. Maybe if I lived someplace where I could safely/easily bike outside. And I think if I were asked to take part in a sprint or Olympic distance one with a friend (and didn't have to train too much) I would do it. But I can't see being satisfied with doing a shorter-course one (on my own), but I don't want to train on the bike for a longer-course one. Plus they're expensive!
ReplyDeleteCan you tell I've looked into this a fair bunch over the years? :)
I also was disappointed in the Kaling book, I stopped after a few chapters. I'm currently reading Matt Fitzgerald's "The New Rules of Half and Marathon Nutrition". And I just finished "Mightier Than the Sword: 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' and the Battle for America". Loved it!
Labyrinth is awesome. I've been afraid to watch it again as an adult, though. Does it hold up?
I think if you loved it as a kid, then you'll love it as an adult. But if you never saw it as a kid - like Matt - then it's hard to appreciated its campiness.
DeleteI may need to look into that marathon nutrition book. I know I'm going to need it!
A mini-tri is on the bucketlist for me! I am getting confident in my running finally and my swimming is solid. The cycling is the hardest for me since my broken tailbone a couple years ago. I'm thinking 2015 for my try at a tri (hehe) and focus on my first half-marathon this year.
ReplyDeleteI think that's so awesome! People who complete triathlons are super-athletes in my book! Good luck with your first half!
DeleteI'm training for my first triathlon (a 70.3) right now! It's been quite an experience thus far. P.S. I love your sister's taste in fashion. I am guilty of wearing out my Labyrinth VHS tape growing up - loved David Bowie!
