Ragnar's Looming

My first run in the new shoes was awesome and precisely what I needed. It was a brisk 3-miler, just enough to shake out the long-run cramps and just fast enough to feel like a real run.
My new shoes feel like clouds...stable, firm clouds!
Yesterday I did a circuit Cori (at Olive to Run) posted on her Instagram. The moment I saw it, I knew it would be perfect for an at-home workout. I finished up with one of the yoga workouts from the Nike Training Club app.
I forgot how much jumping jacks and wall sits can burn!
The reason for the at-home workout was that I had a Ragnar meeting to get to in the evening. We met for drinks, dinner, and logistics. So much planning goes into a race like this! I'd be getting anxious except that I'm focusing on my upcoming half right now, so I don't have time to be anxious!
Most of our team!
Our team warmup shirts and jackets look spectacular, and I got my headlamp so I can start practicing running in it. Suddenly I have a million accessories with the Ragnar mask, but I refuse to wear them until the race weekend.
Sure to attract bugs of all kinds, but hopefully it'll ward off gators!
We've gotten some nice weather again, which means running before sunset, which means speed-work! I know I should do a tempo run, but I'm probably going to do some intervals instead...They're more fun, and these days I'm gravitating toward workouts that make my heart happy.

Do you have a home gym? I have an "all-purpose" room with just enough space for a workout.
Any tips for running in a headlamp?
When's the last time you did jumping jacks?

  2. I love having a home gym. Our space is small (just a spare bedroom in a 1950's house - didn't make bedrooms very spacious back then). We have a treadmill, weigh bench, inversion table, exercise ball, and I store my road bike in there. It leaves just enough room in the middle to roll out a yoga mat for crunches or push-ups. If I want to do lunges, I usually do those in the hallway. That circuit workout looks fun, I think I'll have to give it a try soon! I want a circuit that looks that good but focuses more on arms and shoulders - can you find me one? (j/k, sorta).

    1. I'd love to get a weight bench, free weights, and a treadmill. Maybe someday!

There are tons of workout circuits on instagram! I'm sure there are some great arms ones that include push ups, dips, etc!

  3. Ragnar looks super fun! I LOVE relays :D Awesome looking gear as well.

I've never run with a head lamp before. I did strap a light to my chest before to run, but I imagine getting used to it on my head would be something to experiment with in training.

My @ home gym is my living room...lol. It really helps to watch funny sitcoms while working out. It makes the time go by faster. ;)

    1. I wish I had space in my living room to workout. The TV would make it a LOT more enjoyable!

  6. I did jumping jacks last summer when I did 30 Day Shred. Prior to that I hadn't done them in years! I forgot how hard they are. I also forgot how hard jumping rope is ... or maybe it was just a lot easier when I was 10 :) I would do a million jumping jacks over any amount of lunges though. I have such poor balance that when I do lunges I'm sure it looks like a wobbly mess.

    1. How did you like the 30 Day Shred? I sometimes consider doing that. But yeah, they are definitely more difficult as an adult!

  7. So much fun!! I have a finished basement so if I need a quick workout space - that's my go to! A tip for the headlamp - make sure it's not too tight or it will give you a headache. Also, you'll want to tip it slightly downward so the light is shining just ahead of your feet and not straight out or all you will do is trip over those gators - yikes!!

    1. Good tips! I had it pointed down during the run, but it kept blinding the camera so I tilted it up for the photos lol.

  8. Love the jacket!!! Can't wait to hear all about your upcoming 1/2!!

My boyfriend bought TRX cables the other day....I tell you...doing a plank with my legs hanging from those is TOUGH!!!!!

I need to get a head lamp....I just can't bring myself to brave the Costco crowds. :-)

    1. Oooh planks with cables sound wonderfully difficult!!

      I don't even have a Costco membership...a teammate picked up a 3-pack for $9! Can't beat that hehe.

  9. I did jumping jacks today as part of a gain fitness interval app workout! :) My home gym consists of me pushing to coffee table to the side in my living room and pulling the weights out from underneath the couch. lol I'm going to have to google Ragnar. I have no idea what that is!

    1. I think I'm going to start working jumping jacks into all my cross-training days. They hurt my ankles at first, but I think once I'm used to them again they'll be beneficial!
