Weekly Workouts: 2/6-2/12

I've decided to publish these weekly recaps on Mondays from now on because it's less stressful for me. I'm sure no one cares that much, anyway!

Monday: A very short kettlebell workout. I am still trying to figure out how this thing works!
Tuesday: 4 miles. My legs felt really tired. Maybe I needed more time to recover from our fairly speedy 10 miles Sunday.
Wednesday: I made a quick circuit and completed it at Matt's studio before his second art night at a local historical inn. (More on that some other time, I think.)
See my perfect look workout nook?
The intensity of this circuit was all in the sequence; my abs were killing me and ready for a rest by the time I finished bicycles, and then the squat-combo and Arnolds were great upper-body burners!

Thursday: Rest. My left foot was feeling a little achy after wearing crappy sandals Wednesday night.

Friday: 4 miles. My legs still felt stiff. Elizabeth and I discussed whether or not I should just forgo running until race day, which is this coming Sunday. I am seriously considering it.
This entire run felt like work. My legs finally felt okay at mile 3.75.
Saturday/Sunday: I worked at Matt's studio during the Art Festival all weekend, so technically Saturday and Sunday were rest days, although I was up and on my feet all day.
My sister drove in for the festival; here, Matt is teaching her to make a bowl. She did a great job!
I decided not to run Sunday. I'll try running Monday evening, and if my legs are still giving me issues then I'll cross-train only all week until race day. It's time to taper, anyway, and right now it seems like rest needs to be on the menu.

Total Mileage: 8 :(

  1. That stinks that your legs have been achey, but I bet it's from all the strength training you've been doing. I always find after a leg day I am moderately sore the next day but really sore the second day after. I would have felt super stiff on Friday too after doing squats and deadlifts on Wednesday. If I'm already sore leading into a leg day I'll split the workout up and do only squats or only deadlifts as they are both so killer on the legs. Before i started running and was only focused on lifting I would never squat and deadlift on the same day because whichever lift I did first meant the other lift would suffer because it takes soooo much out of the legs. I bet today you'll feel much better *fingers crossed*! If not, relaxing this week sounds like such a good plan.

I've decided to volunteer at the race expo this year since I've never volunteered before and always say I want to. If you come by Sat afternoon I'll be there! I think I'm handing out race bibs!

    1. I am starting to think my leg pain is all psychosomatic! There just doesn't seem to be a good reason for it. It's frustrating. But...I will survive!

Elizabeth and I are driving in Saturday morning and will go straight to the expo, so we'll be there in the early afternoon sometime. I'll text you!

  2. I love your lamp in the background as you are doing your kettle bell swings!! You've been doing some real good workouts so maybe your legs just need some rest/foam rolling?

    1. Thanks! It's an old one from Target I think...it used to belong to Matt's brother.

  3. Enjoy your taper and rest up! I hope you feel better. I have some light kettlebells that a friend gave me and I have no idea what to do with them! I know the heavier ones are great to work with.

    1. The lighter ones are really nice for moves where you lift them up over your head, like this side-lung more I like, or if you want to use them with burpees!

  4. It looks like you are doing good with that kettle bell so far! Roger makes me do a lot of workouts with a kettlebell.. I almost want to write my name on it with glitter! How did you make that gif?

oh! that's a hard call!! rest or not to rest!! maybe some light yoga?

    1. Oh, it would be fun to have a glittery-name on a kettle bell. I feel like my form is so weird and I don't know if I'm holding it right. When I lower it and then raise it, I don't know if I'm supposed to shift my grip or not?

I used giphy.com to make the gif, but you can google "create gif"!

  7. Good call on not running Sunday. Better to be safe than sorry when it's so close to the race, plus it's really just a lead-in to taper. Enjoy your taper week so you can hit the start line with fresh legs and have a great race! This is your friend's first half, right? Should be fun!
