Weekend Wrap-Up

As if having a super packed Thanksgiving wasn't awesome enough, Saturday and Sunday were spent squeezing in as much fun as possible to make the break from work really worth it.

Saturday we tried to brave the elements and get some paddling in, but the wind and gray skies made the trip to the beach a bust.
Summer weather may finally be coming to an end.
Sunday we carved out time from lesson plans and grocery shopping to visit the Sand Sculpture Championships, which we try to see whenever they're local.
It's amazing what people can do with 40,000 pounds of sand!
The theme this year was Christmas. Some of the sculptures were corny, but there were quite a few funny ones, and even a couple that captured the ethereal beauty of the medium.

This week is looking good. I have a little niggling foot pain in my right foot, but otherwise I'm feeling great after slowly boosting my mileage again. (I got a nice 5-miler in Saturday before we tried to paddle.)
Hopefully it goes away and I have time to get in some training before our Sup 'n Run relay this weekend. 8 miles on a tender foot doesn't sound like my idea of fun.

How's your Monday going?
Can you believe it's December already?!
What races do you have coming up?

  1. Just found your blog! It's still shorts weather where you are?! I wish!!
I also can't believe it is December...2013 seriously flew by. No races left for me, though I may try to find a 5K. Can't wait to run in 2014!

    1. Welcome!

Yes, luckily it's still shorts weather while the sun is up, although the evenings are beginning to get "cool".

  2. WOW those sand sculptures are amazing! I need to research how they get the packed sand to stay perfectly in place while they are sculpting because I have trouble making anything other than a sand blob.

I can't wait for this Sun N Run relay! Go Team K!

    1. There was a show for awhile on TLC or something about sand sculptors. It's really amazing how they do it! It's science, yo.

Our team name is "Til Death Do Us Part"....I'll need to post our "team logo" this week. It's hilarious!

  3. Wow those sand sculptures are really amazing!! I so wish we lived anywhere near a beach. It's been winter weather here for months now. Booooo!!! I have a "santa's run" 5K coming up. I can't wait - every year I do it with a bunch of friends and then go out afterward and eat way too much for having only burned off 5K's worth of calories:-)

    1. It's crazy how long the warm weather has lingered here. It's not usually this warm in November still. Your Santa's Run sounds SO fun!! Those themed races with celebrations at the end with friends at the best!

    1. My headbands are pretty much all BIC Bands. I love them...I have a tiny head and these don't slip or pinch, and you can get them in different widths!

Enjoy your Santa Shuffle! Stay warm!

    1. The sculptures are seriously so cool!

Fall is pretty much summer but less humid lol...winter finally brings in cool temps in the evenings/mornings as low as the high 30s and daytime temps that are usually in the high 60s. but lately it's still in the high 70s in the daytime. This is my favorite time of year to be a Floridian!

    1. The longer I live in FL, the more I wonder how people can deal with the north...but I do have fond memories of the midwest in winter!
