The first time we hiked Twin Falls, we were brand new to Seattle. It was the first trail I wore my hiking boots on and I remember finding it challenging. It's so funny how different it felt five years later.
This time, we parked at the other end of the trail and hiked it backwards. That meant the first half mile or so was along an access road and wasn't particularly scenic. But once we finally turned onto the trail, I remembered how much I enjoyed this one.
The falls are quite pretty, there are plenty of good viewing points, and the hike is certainly easy with just a few instances of steep climbs. We didn't do the entire trail because we didn't want to lose the daylight and still needed to make time to eat.
We paused in a clearing on the way back to have lunch, and I was too cold at the end of the hike to want Dairy Queen, which is unusual. Matt's takeaway from this outing was that we don't need to be such pansies about hiking in the winter, but I enjoy having some time off from hiking because we do so much in the summer that I get a little burned out on it.
Plus I need to prioritize running in the winter anyway.
Anyway, it was lovely to revisit this one and I'm so glad we did. The first time we did Twin Falls, I still felt like a Floridian faking my residency in Seattle, I had no idea what to expect of the hike based on the All Trails description, and my boots were brand new. Now, Twin Falls feels downright quaint, my boots have nearly 200 miles on them, and I really feel like I belong in Seattle. Amazing what can change in five years.
