The Orca Half Marathon 2025

There is really nothing quite as fulfilling as running a first race with a friend...unless it's successfully indoctrinating them into the cult of running. Which I think I've successfully done with Nick, now. Spoiler alert, but at the end of this race, he told me he'd definitely run a half again...just not right away.

And less than 6 hours after we finished, he sent me a link for a 12k he wanted to do. So yeah, I think my work here is done.

Ancient Cedars Trail, Whistler, BC

The day after hiking the High Note Trail, we planned to find an easy hike. We weren't going to let a little rain stop us; in fact, it helped us choose the perfect hike, because we were looking for something with tree coverage.

The Ancient Cedars Trail is a fairly easy 3-mile hike that terminates in a gorgeous grove of...ancient cedars. There are benches and sign posts in the grove so you can sit and enjoy the view and learn about the trees. This is my favorite kind of hike, and I was so happy we did it!

Hiking High Note Trail in Whistler, BC

We planned our second trip to Whistler specifically to do a hike on Whistler Mountain, which we couldn't do with Zoe. Matt had his eye on the High Note Trail because he'd heard the view was really good, so that's what we did!

Coming up: the Orca Half

On September 21, Nick and I are running his first half marathon! Training has felt...spotty. I made the mistake of not writing down a specific plan on my calendar, so I was mostly keeping track of my workouts via Strava. As a result, I'm not actually sure how solid my training was! So, in an attempt to boost my confidence for race day, I'm looking back on the last few weeks to see how my training actually went.

Fit by 40: 1 Year In

...and 6 months to go!

In September 2024, I finally joined Matt's gym. It took me a few months to get into a rhythm of attending, but by early 2025 I had found a schedule that worked for me and was going even when Matt couldn't join me. I've now had 12 body scans, a whole year's worth, and I want to take a look at the changes I've made, both physically and mentally.

Annette Lake Trail

Matt and I had an unexpected long weekend together, and of course, that means hiking! I had already told my friend Melissa I was up for a hike, so it ended up being the three of us. I had run long the day before and my legs were toast, so I wanted something not-too-challenging but that would still be entertaining for Matt, who seems to want to tackle harder hikes each time.
