Ancient Cedars Trail, Whistler, BC

The day after hiking the High Note Trail, we planned to find an easy hike. We weren't going to let a little rain stop us; in fact, it helped us choose the perfect hike, because we were looking for something with tree coverage.

The Ancient Cedars Trail is a fairly easy 3-mile hike that terminates in a gorgeous grove of...ancient cedars. There are benches and sign posts in the grove so you can sit and enjoy the view and learn about the trees. This is my favorite kind of hike, and I was so happy we did it!
This trail had everything I love about hiking the PNW: moss, trees, giant rocks, bridges over little rushing creeks, and stunning views. For such a short hike, it really offered a bit of everything.
My legs were tired after High Note, but not completely dead. There were a few steep spots, but nothing too difficult. No poles needed!
On our way to the grove, we took a detour toward an overlook spot, which granted us a stunning view of the nearby mountains.
The cedar grove was more than I was expecting. It was actually breathtaking. The trees there are estimated to be at least 700 years old, probably older, and they are huge. I couldn't fully capture the breadth of their trunks, but they were truly amazing.
This was the perfect "recovery" hike, and I was thrilled that our next day in Whistler involved a massage and day-long rejuvenation retreat at Scandinave. This hike and High Note were my last two workouts before the Orca Half Marathon, and I was definitely ready to rest after we finished them.
